Covenant House Nineline

Organization Details:

Covenant House Nineline

Covenant House Ninelines vision is to serve all suffering children and to assure that no child is left alone on the streets.

Description and/or History:
Covenant House Nineline was launched in 1987 and is a program within Covenant House that provides crisis intervention via telephone. Covenant House is one of the largest agencies providing crisis care and other services to homeless young people under the age of 21.

Nineline is a nation wide crisis intervention hotline and is primarily for youth and their families, however we assist all those who call and are in crisis. On the hotline we handle different types of calls such as Suicide, Child Abuse, runaway and troubled youth, Domestic Violence, Substance Abuse Calls and Shelter referrals for both youth and adults. Nineline as of now is available twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week. However, effective July 13th 2009 the hotline will operate from 2pm-3am. Crisis Workers will still be able to access a computerized database of more than 30,000 agencies to provide callers with referrals in their city and state. Nineline Staff will continue to assist youth by arranging transportation home or to a safe shelter. Staff will also provide a message relay service so that youth not ready to speak with their families can let relatives know they are safe.
