GreenApple Corps

The goal of the GreenApple Corps is to immerse Corps members in a variety of work and learning experiences to provide them with technical skills, practical knowledge and unparalleled personal development opportunities. GreenApple Corps members work actively in three program areas: Environmental Education, Ecological Restoration and Urban Forestry.

Description and/or History:
To let you know a little more about us, GreenApple Corps members work actively in three program areas: Environmental Education, Ecological Restoration and Urban Forestry. The GreenApple Corps weaves these three strands together into a cohesive public benefit program to preserve and restore delicate natural areas, increase the street tree population citywide and turn school children into environmentally aware citizens and stewards. Members commit to a nine month term and often go on to work in related environmental and educational areas.
Begun in 2004 by Commisioner Kavanagh as an initiative to conserve our valuable urban forests and wild areas, it began as an americorps program but has graduated to be a subsidiary of the NYC Parks Dept.
