The Dominico American Society of Queens mission is to improve the lives and raise the self esteem of low income families through educational, technological, cultural, and social means.

Description and/or History:
Our target population is mainly Hispanics and their age ranges from 7 years of age and up. They were born here or arrived in the US from different Latin American countries, mostly from Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Peru.
Our current program scope includes services for youth and for adults. We presently conduct an after school program that serves grammar school children. The program meets every week day from 3:30 to 6:30 pm and includes tutoring, homework help, mentoring opportunity and an introduction to community awareness. Our adult services include English as a Second Language, Computer Training, Tutoring, Citizenship Classes, Immigration Assistance, and general information and referrals. Our aim is to provide the children and the adults with the education and skills they need to be successful.

For the last 15 years, we have empowered thousands of immigrants and their children through our programs. In 2007 alone, 181 of our participants passed the citizenship exam; 200 improved their computer skills; 200 attained or retained jobs; and 700 immigrants learned English. We have helped hundreds of children improve they academic performance in school. We have guided hundreds young adults in attaining their GED.
