The Jewish Community Council of the Rockaway Peninsula (JCCRP) is a member organization consisting of over forty Jewish groups serving the Rockaway Peninsula. Since 1972, the JCCRP has been providing services on a non - sectarian basis to those in need and advocating issues of concern to the community. The JCCRP offers information and referral service about community activities and resources.

The Jewish Community Council of the Rockaway Peninsula is a proud affiliate of Met Council, a not-for-profit organization representing and coordinating the efforts of grass roots Jewish Community Councils and citywide and national Jewish organizations. It is the primary advocate for the needs of poor Jews, reaching out to the isolated Jewish poor and elderly, and increasing public recognition of the extent and nature of poverty among Jews through legislative and social advocacy.

The JCCRP is also pleased to be an affiliate of UJA-Federation of NY whose mission is to care for those in need, strengthen Jewish peoplehood, and foster Jewish renaissance in New York, in Israel, and throughout the world.

The JCCRP maintains a community calendar designed to reduce conflicts among area organizations programs and events. This calendar is published monthly and distributed to leaders of local organizations. It is updated more frequently on the Community Calendar page of this website.

Description and/or History:
The JCCRP receives funding from the NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal to provide housing and neighborhood preservation services, the NYC Department for the Aging to provide social services to the elderly, the Community Service Society of New York to provide assistance concerning managed care, the Nutrition Consortium of New York State for the promotion of the federal Food Stamp Program and assisting individuals enroll, Assemblymember Audrey Pheffer for her support of social services and the staging of concerts, and UJA-Federation of New York for both the JCCRP social service center and basic support. The JCCRP would also like to acknowledge the NY Association for New Americans (NYANA) for funding English-as-a-Second Language classes for refuges who reside on the Rockaway Peninsula.
Since it's founding in 1972, under a NYC Human Resources Administration grant administered by the Metropolitan New York Coordinating Council on Jewish Poverty, the JCCRP has been providing services on a non-sectarian basis to those in need, and advocating for issues of concern to the community. At the time of its founding, the Far Rockaway section of the Peninsula was in transition and there were fears that the neighborhood would be abandoned and lost as a Jewish community. Today, the JCCRP is a vibrant organization whose involvement includes providing social and neighborhood preservation services, and serving as an umbrella organization consisting of the approximately 45 Jewish organizations based on the Rockaway Peninsula. They include synagogues, yeshivot and social services organizations.

Initially, the JCCRP provided neighborhood preservation services. In recent years it has broadened its range of activities to include the provision of necessary social services to all residents of the Rockaway Peninsula. In its capacity as a coordinating body, the Jewish Community Council of the Rockaway Peninsula has worked with and become a member of other organizations in the area for the betterment of the community. The JCCRP is also represented at Community Board #14 meetings.
