ShareTheCaregiving Inc.

ShareTheCaregiving, Inc. seeks to inform and educate healthcare providers, corporations, communities, clergy, universities, and individuals about Share
The Care™, a model that details how ordinary people can create and operate a unique extended family-type support system to care for a friend or loved one, whether for a month or for years.
Share The Care can revolutionize caregiving in the United States by introducing a new paradigm in which ordinary people pool their efforts to help ease the burden on family caregivers and help those without family nearby.

Description and/or History:
ShareTheCaregiving Inc. focuses its efforts on:
EDUCATION/TRAINING by offering full day training seminars and shorter overview presentations for our target audience; conducting workshops for caregivers (with two friends each) about the model to lead them through the initial steps of creating their own groups. WE are currently planning two full day training sessions in New York City and a total of 25 introductory presentations throughout the other boroughs.

The Share The Care™ model was born when a group of twelve women (mostly strangers to each other) came together and stayed together for three and a half years to care for a mutual friend with terminal cancer. Over time they developed forms, ways of working and rotating systems so no one person had too much to do. Their experiences as led two of them, Sheila Warnock and the late Cappy Capossela, to document their techniques, systems and step-by-step instructions into the, Share The Care: How to Organize a Group for Someone Who is Seriously Ill, first published in 1995.
In 2002, Capossela was became ill and required the help of her own Share The Care™ group over the last ten months of her life. In 2003, Sheila Warnock founded ShareTheCaregiving, Inc. as a registered charity to promote and educate people about the benefits of group caregiving. She revised the Share The Care book for a second edition in 2004.
