Shine Global is dedicated to eliminate child exploitation and abuse through the production of documentary films that raise social awareness and effect political change.

Description and/or History:
Shine Global is a 501(c)(3)film production company. All contributions to Shine enable us to produce our films, while any profits are returned to the children documented through local non-governmental organizations. The children we film may come from any part of the world, including New York City.

Our first film, WAR DANCE, was completed in 2006, won 20 awards and was nominated for an Academy Award in 2008. Our second project, HARVEST, is about the estimated 500,000 American child farm workers. It is our intent to give voice to children in need whose stories might otherwise go unreported.

Shine was incorporated as a non-profit in 2005. We began shooting our first documentary, WARDANCE, earlier that summer and filming continued through the spring of 2006. We entered the film into approximately 40 film festivals throughout 2007 and it was released theatrically in November 2007 and nominated in January 2008. We worked with Amnesty International to create a free, downloadable curriculum for WARDANCE available to middle school, high school and college-level instructors. We also recently completed a short, WARDANCE RETURNS, about our return to Uganda in June 2008 to reunite with the children documented and to screen it for more than 7,000 occupants of the Patongo internally displaced persons camp.

We have been fundraising continously but since we are a tiny organization and the vast majority of donations go to film production, we are hoping to attract a volunteer with considerable fundraising experience, preferably in the arts.

We are overseen by a Board of Directors and advised by our Advisory Board. We began filming our second project, HARVEST, this year and hope to see it completed by Fall 2009.
