Tribute WTC Visitor Center offers visitors to the World Trade Center site a place where they can connect with people from the September 11th community. Through walking tours, exhibits and programs, the Tribute WTC Visitor Center creates "Person to Person History," linking visitors who want to understand and appreciate these historic events with those who experienced them.

Description and/or History:
Tribute WTC Visitor Center embodies the need to gather at the World Trade Center site, connect with the people, places and events of February 26, 1993 and September 11, 2001, and reflect. Tribute Center is a project of the September 11th Families' Association, a 501(C)3 non-profit organization, and expands the Association's mission to unite and support victims of terrorism by incorporating the entire 9/11 community - families, survivors, residents, rescue workers and volunteers affected by 9/11/01. The Tribute Center was conceived in early 2003 by Jennifer Adams and Lee Ielpi, while utilizing an advisory board and planning committees of individuals affected by September 11, 2001, to insure authenticity of the museum’s content.

Exhibitions including photographs, objects, film and audio components and text, provide each visitor with a factual timeline and a “person to person” history – sharing experiences of witnesses, survivors, and responders through first person quotes – which forms a dialogue between visitors, personal stories and raw emotions. Throughout the Tribute Center, visitors witness the impact of disaster as well as the enormous outpouring of compassion and volunteerism. Five galleries convey the courage, loss, heroism, and grief of those who responded to the tragedy. The educational programming integrate core curriculum throughout gallery space, lectures, guided walking tours and audio tours around the World Trade Center site.

The Tribute Center is frequented by local, national, and international visitors who make a pilgrimage to the World Trade Center site, eager to learn and connect with history. In 6,000 square feet of exhibition space, over one million visitors have been personally welcomed and introduced to an extremely unique collection of stories that reveal diverse, personal perspectives. Located at 120 Liberty Street, next to FDNY firehouse 10/10 and across from the World Trade Center site, the Tribute Center is housed in one of Lower Manhattan’s historic buildings.

The Tribute Center is located in the space formally occupied by Liberty Deli. In the aftermath of 9/11, the deli became a station where meals were served to rescue workers often by celebrities who volunteered and gave the tired workers a boost. Later, the deli evolved into a distribution point for equipment like gloves, socks, respirators, eye drops and various tools.

"Until the WTC Memorial and Museum is built, visitors from around the world seek a place to pay tribute to the lives lost and to seek deeper understanding of September 11th." - Jen Adams, CEO, September 11th Families' Association
