Description and/or History:
HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE We connect leaders. We connect committed and creative business leaders with knowledgeable and pioneering principals to develop effective school-wide programs. Each business-school team is empowered to define and develop the relationship on their own terms. We provide comprehensive support. PENCIL provides resources and tools to business-school teams ranging from orientations and workshops to one-on-one technical support and strategic planning assistance. We make giving easy. PENCIL streamlines donations to channel financial gifts and products to deserving schools and we help individuals and corporations track and monitor how their dollars are used. We create long-term success. We know it takes the commitment of all of us over time to effectively improve public schools. That's why PENCIL focuses on supporting business-school relationships that go beyond a day and last throughout the year. WHY IT MATTERS Public education in New York City faces a historic moment of opportunity. With the constant push for higher educational standards, tougher student assessments and the most competitive job market in American history, we must harness the talent, skills and resources of all sectors to improve public schools and proactively develop our nation's future talent.
HISTORY
Since our founding in 1995, PENCIL has successfully mobilized thousands of business leaders to strengthen New York City's public schools. PENCIL coordinates Principal For A Day® and leverages those connections to create and support long-term, results-driven relationships that transform public schools.
