Description and/or History:
Soaringwords differential advantage is that it motivates ill children to "pay it forward" and do something tangible to benefit other ill kids and the organization's ability to provide professional turn-key volunteer opportunities for healthy kids and corporate and non-corporate volunteer programs.
While doctors, nurses and hospitals provide medical care, Soaringwords focuses on psycho-social factors that are essential for patients and families to heal through in-person and online support that boosts self-esteem and helps reduce feelings of isolation.
People around the world are searching for connection and meaning, especially in the midst of a medical crisis.
Lisa Buksbaum started the organization after three experiences with death and illness in her family. Eight years ago, her only sibling died from an asthma-induced heart attack at age 35. Five weeks later, her father had a recurrence of non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and underwent a bone marrow transplant. Ten months later, her oldest son became seriously ill with rheumatic fever. Today, thankfully, both her father and son are fully recovered.
When Lisa was in the hospital with her family, there were so many things are child and family unit needed to help them cope that just didn't exist. She became determined to change this situation and make things easier for other people facing serious illness.
Soaringwords addresses many essential needs such as giving ill children fun and therapeutic activities to reduce isolation, help pass the time, boost self-esteem, and connect with friends and classmates.
Soaringwords success is fueled by volunteers who want to do something fun and meaningful to make an ill child feel loved and supported.
