Friends Of Firefighters
Friends of Firefighters, Inc. is dedicated to assisting the New York City firefighting community. Our ongoing mission is to provide long-term support and services through confidential counseling, wellness services, and other personal assistance required by firefighters and their families.
Description and/or History:
Friends of Firefighters offers confidential individual, marriage, family and group counseling. Our resource center, located in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, serves as a central meeting spot for firefighters to relax, meet with Peers, receive counseling, exchange information, and access a wide array of services specific to their needs. Friends of Firefighters, Inc. is a New York City not-for-profit corporation that began as a community-based response to the events of September 11, 2001. Our preliminary efforts focused on providing immediate practical support to the firefighters and their families in the New York City area. While the group's initial response revolved around the most critical needs of individuals affected by the events of 9/11, the mission of Friends of Firefighters has evolved and expanded in the years since. In addition to providing services in-house, Friends of Firefighters acts as a means of linking members of the firefighting community with other programs and making those programs more successful in reaching and helping those in need. Friends of Firefighters remains the only organization serving the firefighting community in this manner.
