The all-volunteer LIC Community Boathouse provides free kayaking and canoeing on the East River and Newtown Creek for recreation and education.

Description and/or History:
The LIC Community Boathouse operates from mid-May through October on the LIC waterfront of the East River.

Some core programs:

Sunday Walk-up Paddles
A great introduction to paddling inside the relative safety of Hallets Cove from a beach administered by the renowned Socrates Sculpture Park.

Water Weekdays
Youth and elder services and neighborhood groups can extend their missions onto the water by partnering with us for prescheduled outings at Hallets Cove.

Friday Night Chill Paddles
A casual, sunset, skyline viewing. Trip duration: approx. 2 hours.

Saturday Adventures
Voyages across the harbor for proven paddlers. We've paddled to Staten Island, City Island, circumnavigating Manhattan (day or night), and up the Bronx River.

Newtown Creek Eco-Paddles
Explore this severely challenged waterway cleaving Brooklyn from Queens and see why its environmental restoration is a must for NYC as a whole.

The LIC Community Boathouse has been offering free kayaking on the East River since 2004. We've been growing strongly through each season, adding new programs and creative enhancements to existing ones.

Our work has been featured on television, in films, and other news media and has been cited for its contributions to the harbor and city at large by public officials and premier organizations.
