Athena Collaborative Group
Athena Collaborative Group is a volunteer driven non-profit dedicated to expanding the population of women entering and thriving in substantial quantitative roles in competitive industries such as Investment Banking.
Description and/or History:
In the long term, we aim to recast the possibilities for girls and their careers by changing the conversations that are happening with girls in the classroom and at home -- with parents, teachers, role models, and friends. Our intention is to ensure that the next generation of girls aspires to a full range of career options when they consider the contributions they can make with the investment of their energy, intellect and talent. We launched in August of 2006. We researched the differentiators displayed by successful performers in entry-level roles in Investment Banking and used these findings to develop the internship program curriculum. We developed relationships with top local universities and IB firms. In 2008 we initiated the pilot of the Internship Program for Women in Investment Banking. Via on-campus information sessions, we engaged 97 applicants for the program and selected through panel interviews 22 students for the pilot class. Our four-day intensive interview clinic, held in January, was well received by the students. We are now gearing up for the launch of the mentoring and internship training programs in the late spring.
