Change 1 Child-(New York)
Change 1 Child will partner with organizations in communities around the world to enrich, motivate, and help disadvantaged children reach their full potential. Our Focus: Encourage children to read by placing in their hands literature relating to their own experiences. We will give these children books which encourage them to dream and use their imaginations. Help children living in poverty by providing the basic necessities for these children to attend school.
our VISION Change 1 Child is an organization that works toward enriching children's lives worldwide. We will encourage children to create a love for reading. We will provide the basic needs for children to attend school. We will rally against poverty and child labor.
Description and/or History:
Change1 Child is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization that takes action against failing schools, hunger, and poverty affecting children around the world. Change 1 Child takes the stance that education through motivation, exposure, and interest based learning are some of the key components needed to reach children and initiate a spark for learning. We hope to enable children to see themselves beyond their current conditions and circumstances by placing literature in their hands that makes a connection to their daily lives, while at the same time expands their thoughts and ideas regarding their own potential.
Change 1 Child started in New York City in 2008. We are a group of committed citizens and humanitarians dedicated to the advancement of children in disadvantaged and low income communities globally, through a literacy-based outreach approach. Our mission is literacy-based because 100 million children worldwide are illiterate, 55% of which are girls. More than 72% of the world's children do not attend school and significantly more attend irregularly. Working to improve literacy is imperative for our children to grow, individuals and communities to develop, and for people to make informative and intellectual choices. It is a step in the right direction to breaking the cycle of poverty.
