Restart A Heart Association
We offer free CPR training and portable AED’S (Automated External Defibrillators) to Community Centers, Houses of Worship and other qualified organizations that would not otherwise be able to afford them.
Description and/or History:
Prompt, effective CPR is more important today than ever before because with the advent of portable defibrillators the odds of being able to save someones life has greatly increased. That's why you're seeing them in more and more places. They work! It's a very empowering feeling knowing that in the event of an emergency you'd be able to take immediate action because the life you may save is usually that of a family member. a friend or a co-worker. But the sad truth is that there are just not enough of these units out there where they are most needed and not enough people know how to use them. This is why we're doing what we do. Each year in this country alone over 350,000 suffer out of hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Note: It's important to point out that we're talking about a Sudden Cardiac Arrest, not a Heart Attack. Simply put, a Heart Attack is "Ouch, I think I'm having a Heart Attack. Someone call 911." Simply put, a Sudden Cardiac Arrest is at best "Uh oh.......Thud!" That's the difference. Of those people that suffer SCA out of hospital,95% never make it a hospital alive. Why??? Because prompt, effective CPR WITH DEFIBRILLATION wasn't available. That's more deaths than house fires,AIDS,handguns, prostate cancer and traffic accidents....combined! It's just that simple. When a person suffers a Cardiac Arrest the clock starts ticking and you lose 10 percent survivability for every minute that goes by. Permanent damage begins in 3 to 5 minutes. You can't make a 911 call in 3 to 5 minutes mush less expect to get help to your location in that time. SCA can be REVERSIBLE IN MOST CASES if it's treated in those precious first few minutes. This is not something that's just being researched. It's proven technology that works and it's available now! We just need to get it out there where it's needed. Think how many lives could be saved if we can make these portable defibrillators more readily available. It's extremely motivating. We have access to a large group of CPR/AED instructors through Molloy College that we use as needed depending on the size of the classes we're providing along with an arrangement with Philips Defibrillators to provide the AED's. You hear a lot of talk about how CPR and AED's should be more widely accessible but it seems nobody's doing anything to make it happen. We're doing! We just thank you for giving us your consideration of support and should have any questions at all about what we're doing please feel free to get in touch with us. We're always looking for help and we'd love to hear from you.
We've been doing this for almost a year now and are looking to expand our program services.
