Grassroots.org

The mission of Grassroots.org is to serve as a catalyst for positive social change by leveraging modern technologies and best business practices. Grassroots.org provides nonprofit organizations with free valuable technologies and resources to increase their efficiency and productivity.

Description and/or History:
Our ultimate goal is to adopt 10,000 nonprofit members, and to provide each of them with an average of $10,000 per year worth of services at no charge (for a total savings of $100 million per year!).

We focus on nonprofits by offering free technology and business services available through our Nonprofit Toolbox. We currently serve over 1,300 nonprofits in the US and Canada!
We strive to deliver clear and objective information that is usable by everyday global citizens, with extra emphasis on issues facing the United States. Our social action websites are designed to encourage individuals to get involved in their communities and to provide them with the information they need to make a difference. We focus on everyday citizens by offering free action oriented information on our sites, via our forums - and through our social action email addresses, blogs, and other technologies. We provide individuals with ways to express themselves, learn, share, and volunteer in important projects. We focus on nonprofits by offering free services including our one of a kind Grassroots Toolbox full of free, valuable web-based services, plus full-featured web hosting, free domain registration, free website design, mentoring services, consulting and more.

Founded in 2002 by an Internet entrepreneur, Grassroots.org launched our nonprofit toolbox in 2008. We started out offering free webhosting and domain names and now offer nine technology and business services to nonprofits. We currently offer the following services to our nonprofit members:

Domain Registration: Our domain name registration program offers nonprofits one year of domain registration for free. Similar to a physical address, a domain name gives an organization a place to call their own.

Web Hosting: Our web hosting package provides nonprofits with reliable, high-quality hosting at a price any organization can afford: free. The hosting comes complete with 24/7 technical support via telephone, email, or live chat, and can support Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Drupal, Joomla, and Wordpress.

Web Building: Our website builder empowers even novice users to create professional websites that are eye-catching. The website builder comes complete with numerous backgrounds, stock images, and other customizable preferences--and like all our services, our website builder is free for nonprofits.

Web Design: Our volunteer web design program pairs talented web-savvy volunteers with nonprofit organizations in need of assistance. Whether an organization is in need of a new site, or simply wants to revitalize their online presence, our designers are ready to help.

Graphic Design: The volunteer graphic design program matches volunteer designers with organizations interested in developing graphic material for website and other purposes. Graphic designers work one-on-one with nonprofits to develop these materials.

Language Translation: Our language translation program provides nonprofits with free access to an instant website translation service. With this service installed, one simple click allows a visitor to view a site in fifteen of the world's most popular languages.

SEO Consultation: By optimizing site content for search engines, nonprofits can reach new donors, volunteers, and clients with minimal investment of time and money. Our Search Engine Optimization (SEO) program helps nonprofits to optimize their website's content through online educational materials and individualized consultations.

Project Consulting: Our social venture consulting program pairs talented MBA students from participating schools with nonprofits in semester-long project-based consulting partnerships. The program helps entrepreneurial nonprofits increase their organizational capacity by providing direct access to free business consulting.

Phone Service: Our free phone service program provides nonprofits with a toll-free "virtual office" number, complete with extension and voicemail capabilities. The "virtual office" number can ring any phone (landline or cell), allowing organizations to connect with clients, volunteers, and donors--regardless of location.
