Organization Details:
Stuyvesant High School’s club “Stuy STRIVE” (Students Taking Resolute Initiative to Vindicate the Environment) aims to increase environmental awareness and sustainability. We want to bring the “green movement” that has bloomed in colleges and universities to our school and beyond.
Description and/or History:
STRIVE actively pursues methods that are practical for schools and the community to reduce their environmental impact, most notably energy saving. We hold campaigns to promote recycling, waste reduction, and energy efficiency programs. Through networking and a large annual outreach event, we work to bring these initiatives beyond our school into other K-12 schools and the wider New York City community.
This year we are launching our first community event: an Earth Day Festival. Our goals for the festival are to promote our “green school” campaign in New York City public schools and to raise enough money to continue the event next year.
