The Peter Pan Children's Fund
The Peter Pan Children's Fund is dedicated to educating, inspiring, acknowledging and celebrating young philanthropists who make monetary donations to support hospitals that care for sick children.
Description and/or History:
In 1928, author James M. Barrie, gave the story rights to London's Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) and Peter Pan became one of the world's greatest philanthropists. Sixty-four years later, the premier of the movie Hook, in which a grown up Peter Pan has forgotten how to fly, brought screenwriter James Hart and his family to London. A visit to GOSH left a lasting impression on ten year old Julia Hart, who decided to forego birthday presents and instead make a donation to the hospital. That was the beginning of the Peter Pan birthday club, which became the cornerstone of The Peter Pan Children's Fund in the United States. Since it's inception, the fund has branched out with the addition of an education director, to insure that all school age children understand what philanthropy is about through her teacher workshops and participation in education conferences.
