1687, Inc.

Our mission is to support the work of Lenore Von Stein and Company in their efforts to create music and art that stretches the possibilities of expression and encourages creative thinking.

Description and/or History:
1687, Inc. is a 16-year-old non-profit organization. Our performances communicate with audiences in a new language borrowing from several art forms and styles. We are examining what it is like to be alive e.g. sensations, emotions, reasoning and think expanding the range and mode of expression is critical to this effort.

1687 envisions a community of independent artists working both autonomously and in concert with established cultural institutions to create thought provoking, emotionally and intellectually complex works of art that are available to all. To this end 1687, Inc. works to chronicle and disseminate our organizational structure and business practices. We think this will ensure sound business practices through transparency and serve as a model for emerging organizations and reference for individuals working within an organizational structure.

There are currently 10 volunteers working with 1687 on our TV and marketing crews. The volunteers are from a diverse range of professional and educational backgrounds as well as ages. Some of our volunteers bring their professional expertise to 1687, e.g. a commercial editor helps us edit our TV shows, and some are earnest amateurs. In all cases 1687 is a place where volunteers are needed to think and contribute in a substantial way to the development of this exciting and unique organization.
