Organization Details:
We tend to the green spaces around 155-158 street Broadway and West of Broadway. We sponsor and present neighborhood-identity building events---ocassional lectures, concerts, public oral history sessions. We publish annual calendars and act as neighborhood stewards. We have raised money for 22 tree guards in the neighborhoods.
Description and/or History:
Beginning in the 1980's, an informal group of gardeners got together and formed the Riverside Oval Association. The organization remained dedicated to the
gardening of the little park at 156 and Riverside Drive, the Oval. Beginning in 2004, we got involved more broadly. We raised awareness and pushed through a farmers market (now defunct) and began holding public events as described above. Pride in the unique architecture and history of the neighborhood is a key part of the connective tissue of those who participate in our activities.
