The Riverdale Y strives to connect people-to-people, people-to-community, and people-to-faith.

Envisioned as the community's "town square", this vibrant center near the Hudson River attracts area residents of all ages, denominations and interests.

The diverse community of the northwest Bronx is brought together to learn, play, workout, and interact. Children of various backgrounds, for example, have the opportunity spend time with senior citizens who share their interests. Young fitness enthusiasts may have a chance learn about the Bronx in the old days from seniors who remember our city decades ago.

The Riverdale Y is "the" place in Riverdale for creating and maintaining the sense of "community" so important to our city these days, perhaps more than ever!

Description and/or History:
The Riverdale YM-YWHA is a multi-generational agency providing informal education, leisure time activities, and social services to meet the recreational, social, and cultural needs of the Jewish and the general community.

The Y (originally called the YM-YWHA of the Bronx) has served its community in various locations throughout the borough since 1909. The Y has always worked to strengthen Jewish identity, family life and survival, while reinforcing Jewish cultural values and enriching the life of the Jewish community, and society as a whole. The services, programs, and facilities of the Y are available to all residents of the community regardless of race, color, religion, or sex.

Programs include a nursery school, after-school program for children from local public and private schools, resident theater companies (children, teens, and adults), cultural performances, a state-of-the-art fitness center and indoor pool, fitness classes, an art studio overlooking the Hudson River, and a senior citizens center and social adult day care program for adults with dementia.
