Dance Theatre Etcetera
Premised on the belief that the arts are an effective vehicle for social transformation, Dance Theatre Etcetera unites artists and community members as co-creators in dynamic cultural activities. Through site-specific performances, festivals, parades, and performing arts and media education programs, Dance Theatre Etcetera stimulates the social imagination through acts of informed expression.
Description and/or History:
Since 1994, Dance Theatre Etcetera has been an important cultural programmer in Brooklyn, New York and beyond. In 2008, Dance Theatre Etcetera (DTE) continued to serve the Red Hook and greater Brooklyn community through the production of cultural events events, arts in education programs, and began to explore the programming possibilities of our new space. We also began to think of the future, to plan organizational growth and the fuller implementation of our mission in the difficult and changing times ahead.
What We Do: Produce arts festivals that celebrate community and animate public space. Offer innovative performing arts and media education programs at public schools, after-school centers as well as colleges and universities. Promote collaborations between professional artists and community members. Utilize the arts as a tool for civic engagement. Create and produce multi-disciplinary site-specific events that investigate and celebrate urban locales.
