Green Fort Greene & Clinton Hill
We are reducing our neighborhood's contribution to global warming and our use of non-renewable resources. We make it easy to adopt measures that everyone can take or see in the neighborhood. Volunteer a small amount of time and, together, we are making a big difference. Take on a well-structured task to advance a project or design or lead a project.
Description and/or History:
Now we are: distributing signs which stop advertisers from leaving ads on our doorsteps and gates. Contact us to get signs to distribute on your block. Working with the City to nurture our urban forest of street trees by expanding cramped tree pits. Help expand 1,750 tree pits this year by surveying part of the neighborhood, soliciting donations of money and tools, researching property owners or preparing or distributing notices to owners, and more. Starting recycling in 3 parks on a pilot basis. Design the signs that will highlight the recycling cans or you can be the liaison with the Parks and Sanitation Departments to make sure all goes well. Helping local business groups distribute information about simple green measures that businesses will adopt and helping develop buying groups so that green products are affordable. Get the word out to business owners or help identify the best sources for bulk wholesale purchases of green products. Getting the City to plant trees in our bare spots -- the periphery of our neighborhood with few trees, high pollution and poor residents. You can organize the lobbying effort. Figuring out how to expand local composting. Many nice tasks need your attention. Design a neighborhood-wide solar power plant. Planners and number crunchers are needed. Help large-power users bid for green power, i.e., electricity generated by wind and water. Number crunchers and negotiators will make it happen. Thinking of the many more things to come.
