Hamilton-Madison House is a 111 year old settlement house that provides social, behavioral health and educational services to the residents of lower Manhattan's Two Bridges/Chinatown community and Asian New Yorkers Citywide. Hamilton-Madison House's mission is to provide services that ease the burdens of everyday life while providing the skills necessary for future educational, social and professional success.

Description and/or History:
Each year Hamilton-Madison House provides services to more than 17,000 children and adults. Clients range in age from 2 months to seniors 100 years of age and older. The programs, which are provided in 12 languages and dialects, include early childhood education, youth and teen programs, adult English and computer classes and immigrant services, bilingual and bicultural behavioral health services and senior programs. The speak Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Spanish to meet the linguistic needs of the community.

Since its inception, Hamilton-Madison House has been committed to working with the community's immigrant population. When the House opened in 1898, Eastern European Jews and Italian immigrants were the first clients. As the neighborhood evolved, the predominant clients became Irish, Hispanic, African American and Chinese. Since 1965, the predominant population that Hamilton-Madison House serves is the growing Asian population - particularly Chinese Americans.
