Washington Heights And Inwood Development Corporation
The primary mission of the Washington Heights and Inwood Development Corporation is to encourage the development and retention of businesses and jobs in our community through the provision of economic development services. A second primary mission is the development of events to spread awareness of the cultural vitality and attractiveness of our community through the annual production of the Medieval Festival in Fort Tryon Park.
Description and/or History:
The Washington Heights and Inwood Development Corporation’s was created in 1978 to foster economic development in our community. Our B.O.$.$. program provides business counseling, technical assistance, direct loans, grants, referral and other business development services to neighborhood businesses. WHIDC’s Childcare Business Development Program is a self-employment and business expansion service designed to assist low-income individuals develop licensed child care businesses. WHIDC produces the annual Medieval Festival at Fort Tryon Park. This one-day event is the largest single day event in NYC Parks, attracting over 60,000 visitors from throughout the region. The festival started in 1983.
