Dance Parade, Inc.
Dance Parade, Inc.'s mission is: to promote dance as an expressive and unifying art form by showcasing all forms of dance, educating the general public about the opportunities to experience dance, and celebrating diversity of dance in New York City. We celebrate diversity of dance in New York City by sponsoring an annual city-wide dance parade and dance festival and by producing and supporting educational and cultural events throughout the year.
Description and/or History:
On a sunny May Saturday, the New York City Dance Parade brings nearly 5,000 dancers and scores of supporters to the streets of Manhattan in celebration of culture, community, and the art of movement. The parade is followed by a festival in Tompkins Square Park, featuring free staged performances, dance lessons, and a dance party. The parade travels from Broadway and 28th Street down Broadway through Union Square to University Place. From there it leads east on Saint Marks Place to Tompkins Square Park.
