The Lyric's mission is three fold:
• Providing a forum to the world's finest performers to explore and expand the repertoire of chamber music in the intimate setting for which it was written.
• Discovering, nurturing and introducing a wide audience to up-and-coming young virtuosos from around the world.
• Creating music education programs for children and ensuring tomorrow's audience for classical music.

Description and/or History:
In just ten seasons since its debut in the spring of 1998, the Lyric Chamber Music Society has been recognized by musicians, the press, and audiences as one of the preeminent chamber music organizations in the country.
Reaching out to an ever-widening audience, Lyric virtuosos bring the inspiring scope of music's possibilities to thousands of New York public school students.

The Lyric has bought chamber music to more than 5,000 elementary school students since April 1998. Our educational outreach in the New York City schools is part of our commitment and our responsibility to introduce children to classical music. From Concert Master to blossoming performer, our virtuosos have performed in New York City schools such as P.S. 1, Frederick Douglass Academy and Bronx Prep.

Lyric Classical Carousel - Music Education for the Whole Family

In 2001 the Lyric created a series of concerts for children and families at the West Side YMCA. Over four seasons, Lyric Classical Carousel concerts introduced audiences to different sections of the orchestra - brass, woodwinds, percussion, strings-as well as music that falls outside the Western tradition.

The Lyric in the Community, Broadening Perspectives and Fostering a Sense of Achievement:

Because of the dedication of Lyric artists differs from others in their field, we are able to provide exceptionally gifted teachers who are also virtuosos of their instruments. We are at a crucial stage, wanting to expand our activities to serve more children within the school and to introduce our artists and our programs to children in underserved areas at additional schools which have no such music programs.
