Organization Details:
LaMicro Theater’s mission is to produce high quality Spanish, Latin American and US Latino Theater in English and Bilingual productions. We want to expose our audiences to emerging playwrights whose work will lead us to explore new ideas and generate dialogue concerning the realities faced by our diverse communities. LaMicro is committed to produce under-produced playwrights and also experiment with new media technology and work in collaboration with contemporary artists, making our productions entertaining enough to attract non-traditional audiences, including spectators who might have never before been to the theater.
Description and/or History:
LaMicro Theater was founded in the spring of 2003 by three Chilean born artists and a Mexican American college professor who met while doing Hechos Consumados (Finished from the Start) by Chilean playwright Juan Radrigan. While Hechos Consumados was being produced, Berioska Ipinza, Martin Balmaceda, Pietro Gonzalez and Ana Puga met and decided to found LaMicro Theater which eventually became a not-for profit organization. LaMicro since then has produced emerging contemporary playwrights from different countries of Latin America including Juan Radrigan, Diana Raznovich, Marcos Barbosa, Edgar Chias, and Gabriel Peveroni. Not only LaMicro does fully staged productions but also staged public readings in a project called Latino Plays on The Road. With this project, LaMicro travels around New York City and visits different Latino Communities in the city and non Latinos who might be interested in Latino Theatre.
