Danisarte is a not-for-profit bilingual production company whose mission is to develop original productions with the goal of increasing understanding among people of many cultures and nations, develop and showcase the talents of multi-generational artists.
Description and/or History:
Danisarte was founded in 1992 and has held bilingual workshops in acting and playwriting in English and Spanish and productions mainly in East Harlem. The bilingual theatrical festival of original new plays inaugurated the Julia de Burgos Latino Cultural Center in East Harlem in 1998, and since then has held a yearly theatrical festival at that same site. Other benchmarks include the procuction of the first play in Spanish at the Lower Eastside Tenement Theatre, and two Theatre Awards from the Association of Latino Critics of New York for yearly festivals (2005 and 2009).
