Logo Episcopal Community Services Of Long Island

Episcopal Community Services of Long Island, (ECS) is the social service agency of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island, serving Brooklyn, Queens Nassau and Suffolk. We seek to respond to the emerging needs of the community in our region, by partnering with others and strengthening the capacity of our congregations to serve their surrounding communities. We serve all regardless of race, creed, nationality or sexual orientation.

Description and/or History:
ECS was founded in New York City as the Church Mission of Help in 1918, to work with "wayward" girls. As times and visions have changed, the agency has sought to respond to new needs. As a faith-based organization we seek to respond to the whole person, respecting their strengths, encouraging them to dream, and helping them find hope, help and healing in their lives.

We currently offer family preservation services in Brooklyn and Queens help hold "at-risk" families together and prevent the removal of children to foster-care or other placements.

We offer immigration services in Brooklyn and Queens through trained volunteers, to prevent our new neighbors from falling victim to unscrupu;ous practitioners. We will be offering ESL services as well.

We are in the process of opening a youth center in Astoria which will include an emergency shelter for LGBT youth

We offer sliding-scale mental health counseling through our Community Eduacation and Counseling program
