Dorchester Senior Citizens Center, Inc.
Dorchester Senior Citizens Center, Inc. is a happy "home away from home" for many of the neighborhood's 60+ population. Our mission is to promote social, physical and mental health and wellness. We serve lunch (prepared in our kitchen) and offer a variety of activities, classes, events and trips. Dorchester is committed to modification, improvement, whatever is possible -- in our quest to be a positive, healthy resource for our neighborhood seniors.
Description and/or History:
Dorchester is known as one of NYC's most diverse-membership senior centers. We also have blind and visually-impaired members who attend many of our activities. As more and more "seniors" in their 60's join Dorchester, we're in the midst of evaluating the entire program, looking for ways to improve and modernize. We currently have activities such as: aerobics, line dancing, yoga, ballroom dancing, walking club, ESL classes, health promotion workshops & lectures, chorus, music concerts, lectures, bingo, trivia game, cards, mahjong, knitting & crocheting, arts & crafts. We're looking for volunteers to work with us to evaluate how well our program serves the community.
