Organization Details:
Homes for the Homeless operates facilities, known as American Family Inns, that combine basic services of traditional shelters with a full range of programs designed to meet the specific needs of homeless children and their parents. Serving about 500 families and 800 children each day, the American Family Inns are communities of opportunity that connect residents to the resources that will make a difference in their futures.
Description and/or History:
Homes for the Homeless was founded in 1986 and established on the principle that family homelessness is first and foremost a poverty issue that diproportionately affects children. As such, we have adopted a family-based, child-centered, education focused approach to all our programs and services. Each Inn provides fully staffed counseling centers, daycare centers, classrooms, computer labs, after-school programs and playgrounds for families to use during their time as residents.
