The mission of the Rape Crisis Program (RCP) at St. Vincent’s Hospital is to assure that sensitive medical care, counseling, support, and advocacy are available to primary and secondary survivors of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse/incest who reside in Lower Manhattan and the New York City area; to educate the public and other service providers about the needs of sexual assault and sexual abuse survivors; and to work toward the elimination of sexual violence.
Description and/or History:
The Rape Crisis Program offers crisis counseling, advocacy and support for victims of sexual assault. Trained volunteers are on-call to the emergency departments at St. Vincent's Manhattan and New York Downtown Hospitals. Our experienced trauma therapists provide short-term individual and group counseling services to rape and childhood sexual abuse survivors and their allies. We also provide prevention education programs for high school and college age groups, and training programs for police, medical, and social service agency personnel. Supplementary programs, such as an acupuncture clinic, art therapy, writing groups, movie nights, and reiki treatments are offer periodically.
