Organization Details:

Logo Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation

The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation identifies the most brilliant and promising early career scientists and provides them with funding to pursue innovative cancer research. We focus on the rising stars of science, emerging leaders who have great potential to achieve breakthroughs in how we diagnose, treat and prevent cancer.

Our goals are to:

-Recruit the best and brightest early career scientists into cancer research.
-Accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into new diagnostic tools and treatments.
-Enable risk-taking on bold new ideas.

Description and/or History:
The foundation was created in 1946 in memory of Damon Runyon, a New York writer whose tales were transformed into the hit musical Guys & Dolls. Of the more than 3,200 scientists we have funded since, 11 are Nobel laureates and many lead cancer centers nationwide.
