Solar One
Solar One is NYC's first green energy, arts & education center. Our mission is to inspire people of all ages with the resources, knowledge and vision to attain a more sustainable future.
Description and/or History:
Founded in 2003 by the Community Environmental Center, NY State's largest weatherization service, Solar One provides cultural programming, education for K-12 students, green jobs training for disadvantaged youth and also manages Stuyvesant Cove Park, the city's only native plant, sustainably managed park. In addition, Solar One is active in grassroots advocacy for increasing solar energy production in NY city and state. Solar One currently operates out of NYC's only stand alone solar-powered building, and we are planning the construction of a new LEED Platinum net-zero energy use building, to be completed in 2011.
