Learning Leaders? mission is to help New York City public school students succeed by training volunteers to provide individualized instructional support and other school-based support, and by equipping parents to foster their children?s educational development.

Description and/or History:
Learning Leaders recruits, trains and supports up to 12,000 school volunteers who work with over 230,000 students in over 850 schools city-wide. Learning Leaders is the largest such program in the country and a valued partner of the New York City Department of Education.

Trained, screened volunteers offer tutoring in reading, writing, ESL, math and more. They help older students prepare for Regents and other examinations, and assist with college and financial aid planning. Volunteers also enrich school curriculum with enrichment programs including arts appreciation and book clubs.
