Description and/or History:
New Leadership Group
For information or to join the New Leadership Group or Committee on Health Care Issues, please contact Norma S. Gindes, Director, Voluntary Initiatives, at (212) 494-0724 or ngindes@ufhnyc.org.

The New Leadership Group was established in 1991 to bring together a dynamic cross-section of community-minded professionals, all with an interest in health care in New York City. Members come from diverse backgrounds including law, art, finance, marketing, and health care. Connect with others who share your interests, learn about current health care issues and trends, and raise funds to improve health care for children.

Healthy Kids Benefit--a fun cocktail party and silent auction--is held annually in June to raise funds to support a United Hospital Fund grant to improve health care for some of the most vulnerable children living in New York City. Volunteers are needed to help with all aspects of this fundraiser from program planning to soliciting silent auction and raffle items, to staffing the event.

The Group also holds two education programs to increase awareness among its constituents about the critical health care issues facing New Yorkers. Participants can attend the evening seminars, at which experts shed light on the complexities, dilemmas, and the latest developments in New York and the nation. Engage and make connections with health care leaders.

Bedtime Story Project: Brings together books and volunteer storytellers in pediatric departments of New York City hospitals. Hospitals in all five boroughs receive brand-new and gently used children's books, touching the lives of thousands of children.

Become more involved by planning the group's programs and activities, and you will also develop invaluable leadership skills.

The nation's oldest federated charity, the United Hospital Fund was founded by concerned New Yorkers in 1879 as an innovative approach to organizing public support for hospitals to help offset the growing cost of charity care. In the years that have passed, the Fund has played a central role in the founding of many of the organizations and institutions that today help define the city's health care landscape, including United Way of New York City, the New York Blood Center, and Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield. More recently, the Fund has supported the development of the Primary Care Development Corporation, the New York City AIDS Fund, the New York Society for Health Planning, New York Cares, and the National Quality Forum each of which is providing important benefits to the people of New York. The Fund is committed to furthering this tradition of innovation, as a place of ideas, activity, and participation, characterized by independence of thought and a commitment to core values.
