The purpose of Bike New York is to promote and encourage bicycling and bicycle safety through education, public events and collaboration with community and government organizations.

Description and/or History:
Our major event is the TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour held on the first Sunday in May each year (May 2, 2010). We need 1,500 adult volunteers to help us at various rest areas along the route, at the start and finish lines, and in the office before the event.

In addition, we sponsor the Long Island Harbors Ride on June 27, and the Harlem Valley Rail Ride in upstate New York on July 25.

We work with City agencies and schools on an ongoing basis to educate young people on bicycle safety and to provide leadership skills for biking events.
Bike New York has organized the Five Boro Bike Tour in New York City for 33 years. 30,000 riders experience the City by riding through its five boroughs on traffic-free streets and 1,500 adult volunteers help along the route. Participants come from all over the United States as well as from other countries including Europe, Canada, and Japan.
