Genesis II Museum Of International Black Culture

The mission of Genesis II Musuem of International Black Culture is to disseminate, to as wide and audience as possible, the richness and contributions made by people of African Descent.

Description and/or History:
The Genesis II International Museum of Black Culture demonstrates the universality, continuity and strength of black culture of the African Diaspora. The Museum houses multiple galleries and exhibits, including the African Sculpture Court, the Egyptian and Haitian Galleries. Our exhibition is Black Godess: Achievements Against the Odds, which is on view through November 17th. Our most significant programs include Museum Education Programs for Youths, Poets and Writers Workshops, Significant Elders, and Programs of Uptown Black Culture.


Genesis II Museum of International Black Culture was founded in 1981 as a museum-in-residence at The City College of the City University of New York; it later became a Museum Resource Center for Harlem's Community School Board #5, at P.S. 125.

Five years ago (2001) Genesis II Museum opened its doors at its current location, 2376 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. (7th Ave) at 139th St. Since then 25,000 people have benefited from the museum's exhibitions, lectures, educational and artistic programs.
