]The New York Foundation for Senior Citizens is dedicated to helping New York's seniors enjoy healthier, safer, more productive and dignified lives in their own homes and communities and to help them avoid the need for premature institutionalization. We provide a range of services with the support of Federal, State, City and private funding.
Description and/or History:
The New York Foundation for Senior Citizens' Ombudsman Program volunteers protect the rights of nursing and adult home residents throughout New York City's five boroughs. Volunteers are trained by the program's staff to become New York State Certified Ombudsmen and are placed in nursing and adult homes to receive and resolve complaints by working with the residents and staff. Prospective volunteers must be at least 21 years of age, participate in a training program and commit to a minimum of four hours per week and one year of volunteerism.
Established in 1968, the Foundation is the only non-profit, non-sectarian organization serving New York's senior citizens in all five boroughs.
