The American Classical Orchestra is the region's premier musical ensemble devoted to preserving the repertoire of the great composers of the 17th-19th centuries, played on original instruments, as those masters intended.

Description and/or History:
By reviving this art, the Orchestra fosters the education of musicians and the public to authentic performance technique.
We embellish this experience with education, history, symbolism and settings which make this music timeless.
This vision makes our Season's concerts exciting and well-received by the cultural community and by general audiences as well.


The ACO was founded by Music Director Thomas Crawford in 1985 as the Orchestra of the Old Fairfield Academy. In 1999 the Orchestra’s name was changed to the American Classical Orchestra, and we moved our home to Manhattan.
We work to broaden the appreciation, understanding and availability of classical music through both live performances and educational programs for all ages, especially for children, using these original instruments. And our acclaimed Classical Music for Kids program has won national recognition for its innovation and excellence.
