Description and/or History:
The Salvation Army of Greater New York is a religious and charitable organization serving the needs of men, women and children in New York City and nine surrounding counties. The Salvation Army has more than 140 such programs and services in the Greater New York Division. A sampling of these programs include; adult employment training, after-school tutorial, day care, senior citizens clubs, family enrichment, groups homes for teens, homes for the developmentally disabled, summer overnight camping, emergency food and supplies and sit-down feeding.
Established in 1865 in London, England, the organization's mission is to provide programs and services that lead to long-term solutions to such social ills as homelessness, poverty, addiction and hunger.
