Description and/or History:
TSINY supports consumers through various residential and outpatient programs. TSINY currently provides housing for 405 residents. We have 179 supervised residence and apartment beds in Queens and the Bronx. In addition, we have 221 supported housing beds located all throughout Queens. Also, we have another 52 supervised beds under development in Queens. In addition to the residential facilities eight types of outpatient modalities provide services to over 1000 people through clinic, continuing day treatment, mobile outreach, case management, vocational/employment services, educational, socialization and self help programs to promote greater independence and freedom as consumers tackle the responsibilities of everyday living.

In 1975 the families of several handicapped children set about establishing Transitional Services for New York, Inc., a not-for-profit agency that would serve as an alternative to hospital placement. Their belief was rooted in the philosophy that the agency, as an extended family, could ease the burden of caring for the mentally ill and handicapped for their families and their communities. Today, a network of both staff and family supports the ambitions of over a thousand clients annually.
