Medicare Rights Center
Medicare Rights Center (MRC) is the largest independent source of Medicare information and assistance in the United States. Founded in 1989, MRC helps older adults and people with disabilities secure high-quality, affordable health care.
Description and/or History:
MRC’s direct client services include national hotline services, caseworkers and enrollment specialists. Through our hotlines, we provide answers to Medicare questions and assistance to healthcare professionals and individuals with Medicare alike. Caseworkers help individuals secure coverage and prescription medications, resolve Medicare insurance issues, and obtain the care they need. Enrollment specialists help limited-income individuals with Medicare save money on their medications and health care costs by enrolling them in federal and state-funded entitlement programs. Our education department teaches individuals with Medicare, their caregivers, and their healthcare providers about Medicare benefits and rights. The department is a hub of free information on Medicare, generating presentations, online media, newsletters, fliers and more, which illuminate complicated insurance issues in an easily accessible and user-friendly manner. In our public policy efforts in both New York City and Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., MRC brings the consumer voice to the national debate on Medicare reform, using stories from the people who reach us through our hotlines and presentations. And through communications efforts, MRC works closely with local and national media outlets to ensure public awareness and understanding of Medicare issues. The Medicare Rights Center (MRC) was established in 1989 to provide free counseling services to people with Medicare questions or problems. Since its founding, MRC has helped more than one million people with Medicare-related issues. MRC has conducted training programs and presentations for organizations as diverse as the U.S. HHS, the Administration on Aging, Ceridian Performance Partners, American Public Health Association, AARP, the Practising Law Institute, Families USA, AFSCME and Visiting Nurse Service
