The Catalog For Giving® Of New York City
Our mission at The Catalog for Giving® is to transform the lives New York City children and teens whose opportunities are severely limited by poverty, crime, drugs and violence.
Description and/or History:
We support 10 emerging, grass-roots organizations that use innovative ideas and volunteer effort to transform the lives of thousands of young people living in our city’s most impoverished areas. These after-school programs employ activities like art therapy, sports, journalism, and mentoring to provide critical life skills to kids at risk. Each organization we support is selected for its ability to make a big impact on limited funds. Our board of directors fully underwrites the expenses of The Catalog, so that every dollar raised goes directly to the organizations and the kids we serve. Recognizing that small, community-based nonprofits often lack the wherewithal to tell their story, implement effective fundraising efforts, or connect with donors who can help sustain their operations, founders Sally Berg and Barbara Kronman developed The Catalog for Giving®, a unique model to further and foster local efforts to positively impact the lives of disadvantaged children in New York City. The Catalog uses both familiar and inventive consumer marketing tools and an actual “catalog” format to introduce select neighborhood organizations to the larger community, including prospective individual supporters, corporate and foundation funding sources, policymakers and the media. The Catalog for Giving® of New York City has become a recognized and trusted resource for donors, presenting a reliable guide to well-researched, effective groups that might otherwise go unnoticed. Since its founding in 1994, The Catalog has helped transform the lives of over 150,000 young people.
