Community Health Action Of Staten Island
The mission of Community Health Action of Staten Island is to improve the lives of individuals, families and communities challenged by health disparities related to poverty, discrimination and lack of access through direct service, education and advocacy. We serve in a nonjudgmental and compassionate manner as an affirmation of commitment to our community.
Description and/or History:
We are a community based organization that provides services to people at risk and effected by the HIV infection, by providing education, outreach, case management, housing, addiction treatment and food pantry. We have expanded our agency to clients who are not only infected but affected by the virus. Our food pantry is geared towards undocumented immigrants.
Our agency has been around since 1989 and started with 2 employees in one of their houses. We now have over 90 plus employees and 6 different sites. We have several volunteer opportunities ranging from our food pantry to our client activities. We have basket deliveries around Easter and Thanksgiving, holiday parties, mailings and children's activities.
