Stoked Mentoring is a not-for-profit action sports mentoring organization with the mission of developing "Successful Teens with Opportunities, Knowledge, Experiences and Determination." Bringing together "at-risk" youth and successful professional adults to learn a new non-traditional sport, Stoked programs serve as the groundwork and means for enhancing mentoring relationships and introduces coaching skills and tools that elicit the best from both parties.

Description and/or History:
Stoked Mentoring is a unique organization that develops innovative programs exposing "at risk" youth and their mentors to action sports as a means to develop and foster resiliency, determination and success. Responsible for developing the curriculum for each mentoring program/ season, Stoked will recruit and train program mentors and teachers/coaches, hand-match mentor and mentee, manage the mentoring relationship for optimal results and oversee follow up post-season. The current programs are targeted towards teens 13 - 17 years old.
Stoked Mentoring began during a snowboard trip in April 2004 when Founder and Executive Director, Steve Larosiliere, is inspired to create opportunities to expose “at-risk” youth to nature and the challenging sport of snowboarding, through a unique mentoring program.

2005 marked the inaugural program year for Stoked Mentoring. By launching three individualized action sports mentoring programs, Stoked positioned itself as the premiere sports-related mentoring program in New York City. In January 2005 Stoked began Snow Mentor, a snowboard program for 9 mentoring pairs. In June, Stoked launched Skate Mentor, teaching Skateboarding and life skills to 10 mentoring pairs. July 2005 marked the inaugural season of Surf Mentor in Rockaway Beach, NY serving 5 mentoring pairs. In September, Stoked ran Skate Mentor for the 2nd time, this time serving 10 female and 10 male mentoring pairs.

In 2006, Stoked built on the successes of its first year by increasing the number of youth involved and solidifying its program model. Snow Mentor 2006 served 20 mentoring pairs; Skate mentor 10 pairs and Surf mentor 11 pairs.

2006 also saw Stoked expand to become a bi-coastal organization when it started its LA-based programs which facilitated 21 mentoring relationships during, Snow, Skate and Surf.

Stoked has now grown to over 40 mentoring pairs in New York City alone. We continue to allow the youth in our program to constantly challenge themselves with new experiences and create a meaningful bond with their mentors through the action sports.
