On April 20, 2009, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg launched NYC Service, the office tasked with setting a new standard for how cities can tap the power of their people to tackle our most pressing challenges. NYC Service oversees more than 40 innovative initiatives that aim to achieve two overarching goals: making our City the easiest place in the world to volunteer and promoting service as a core part of what it means to be a citizen of the greatest city in the world.

Description and/or History:
NYC Service will help drive volunteer activity to the issues where New York City's needs are greatest: strengthening communities, helping neighbors in need, education, environment, health, and emergency preparedness.

The launch of NYC Service comes at a difficult time for our economy but it also comes at a time when President Obama has inspired a revived national interest in service and committed new federal resources to it. New York City has historically been a pioneer in all areas of public policy, and it has a long tradition of public service. NYC Service is working to further these efforts in new and innovative ways by leveraging the greatest asset we have: our people.

NYC Service 5 Overall Experience    Experience rating
Excellent Experience

Donating blood at NY Blood Center is one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done. The staff are friendly, professional and helpful and the facilities are top-notch. I am definitely going to donating blood a routine part of my life.
