Chinese Progressive Association

Based in Manhattan’s Chinatown / Lower East Side, the Chinese Progressive Association works towards social and economic justice for Chinese Americans.

We involve community residents in the decision making processes that affect their lives. We bring together people from diverse backgrounds and walks of life to work toward these goals. We work with other communities and support equality and justice for all.

Description and/or History:
We provide educational, advocacy, service, and organizing programs that raise the community's living and working standards.

Our current programs include
• English as a Second Language and Civics education
• Immigrant rights education, advocacy and services
• Starting Line Youth Peer Mentoring Program
• the Chinatown Environmental Health & Justice Project
• Voter registration and education

The Chinese Progressive Association was founded by community residents and activists as an organization that could bring together community members of diverse backgrounds to serve the people. Through direct services, organizing, and advocacy, we have addressed a wide array of issues such as immigrant rights, environmental justice, affordable housing and community development, workers' rights, youth leadership development, and political empowerment
