Please view our website for a complete overview of this program. Doula volunteers are compassionate companions to people who are in the last 18 months of life. Doula volunteers complete a course consisting of eight 1 ½ hour sessions and are asked to volunteer for a minimum of 18 months after the training. Doulas serve one patient at a time until death, providing continuity of care if the patient moves from one setting to another. Doulas receive individual and group support from the staff. They are encouraged to attend monthly support meetings at JBFCS for continued education and support. Well prepared Doula volunteers can: minimize the sense of isolation; provide emotional, spiritual and social support; comfort, practical assistance and advocacy; thereby making a significant difference. Next training starts March 4, 2010

There is an interview required. Volunteers must commit to volunteer one hour per week for 18 months after the 8 week training. Training is in the evening, once a week, for 8 weeks from 6-8 PM. Trainings are given twice yearly. Please read our website before contacting us, so you can understand the nature of the service and the requirements. Minimum age requirement is 25. This is not an appropriate opportunity for MSW students.
