Volunteer Opportunity Details: |
|
Since 2002, fresh art has had volunteers hand-sew sock monkeys for the organization to sell in order to benefit its craft workshops for people with special needs, in particular homeless (or formerly homeless) men and women. (see our other listing for sock monkey sewing volunteers for workshops for artists with special needs).
Every other Monday evening from 6:30-8 p.m., volunteers meet at the fresh art/HAI office (we have donated desk space within another non-profit: HAI)to hand sew the monkeys. We provide all the materials, and no experience is necessary. The sock monkeys are sold via fresh art's website (www.freshartnyc.org-"gift shop"), craft fairs and other venues. The proceeds of the sales are applied to fresh art's programming for New York City artists with special needs.
Please check fresh art's web site home page for the pdf of the dates of the next sock monkey sewing group and dates for our other activities. www.freshartnyc.org
We request that volunteers commit to volunteering for four evenings(does not have to be consecutive Mondays) or until the sock monkey they started is completed. We request that the sock monkey be completed on our premises during the sewing group.
